whistlebl.jpgSouth Lakes High School is seeking candidates to fill the offensive coordinator position for its men’s varsity lacrosse team. SLHS competes in the highly competitive Northern Region of the Virginia High School League. Coming off of a successful spring campaign, the Seahawks graduate only one senior from the varsity roster. Responsibilities will include coordinating the Seahawk’s offensive system, scouting and film review of opponents, and assisting practice during the spring season. Collegiate playing experience and previous experience in the coaching of student-athletes is preferred.

SLHS is the primary high school for the community of Reston in Fairfax County, Virginia. The school’s $70 million renovation will be complete this fall and includes state-of-the-art upgrades to its athletic facilities. dressedup.jpg“First impressions are remembered best” and I think this holds true for prospective student-athletes and how they present themselves to coaches as they navigate the contact phase of the college recruiting process. Below are some simple tips to consider that will help prospects as they begin cultivating relationships with college coaches.

Dress for the Occasion

Projecting a positive personal image in the eyes of the college coaches is very important and your outward appearance is a great starting point. The first thing a coach sees before he shakes your hand is you and your outward appearance. I am not saying you need to “dress for the prom,” but you should make every effort to dress in a casual, but clean and professional manner. Torn jeans and a dirty t-shirt with sneakers just won’t cut it in the competitive world of college recruiting and you are only decreasing your chances of remaining high in the active recruiting file by exhibiting a poor appearance. In preparation for the initial meeting with the coach, wear a nice pair of Khakis or shorts, polo shirt and a pair of casual shoes. You will remain comfortable and the coach will be impressed with your outward style.

tripleedgelogo.jpgSouth Lakes will be entering a varsity-level team into the TripleEDGE Dulles Summer League. All athletes interested in participating should send an email to Coach Blamey ASAP and register at the following link (Save $30 by registering before June 10th!): TripleEDGE Summer Registration

The TripleEDGE “game only” leagues provide experienced players the opportunity to sharpen their game skills in a competitive, organized, and safe environment. Trained ADULT supervision on all fields is the key to providing a quality game experience. Leagues are designed and scheduled to keep players active in lacrosse and allow them to participate in the primary sport of the season. Due to the game only format, players MUST have at least one season of organized lacrosse experience to play in any league.

picture-2.pngOn Saturday, May 10th, the Northern Region announced the all-region team for men’s lacrosse. On that list were two stand-out Seahawks, Tyler Harned (HM) and Ed Reed (2nd), both junior captains.

“Tyler has always been a smart player with great field sense,” stated Head Coach, Matt Blamey. “This season, his physical ability finally caught up with the mental part of his game. He really came into his own this year as a leader and a lacrosse player.” Tyler lead the Seahawks in scoring with 52 total points (39G/13A). In addition to his on-field performance, Tyler is an exemplary student, carrying a 4.0GPA.

Also carrying a stellar GPA (3.9) and a leader both on and off the field is junior defensemenn, Ed Reed. “Ed is the anchor of our defense,” noted Blamey. “He is an extremely gifted defensemen and one of the hardest workers on the field. Ed is a natural team leader and will never give you less than 100%.” He is always matched up on the opponents biggest offensive threat and consistently impairs their ability to score.

Please take a moment to congratulate these student-athletes on yet another tremendous accomplishment.
